WHY I CHOSE THIS BOOK: I have not read any books in the CHERUB series, but I chose it for my Saturday Shout-Out today because it is tremendously popular with my 7th and 8th grade boys. We have more than one copy of most of the books in this series, and I only just realized that we don't have #11 or #12 (on the order list!). They are getting quite worn out, so I have a brand-new set of them on the way as well.
This is a teen spy series, frequently compared with Horowitz's Alex Rider series, which is also very popular in my library. I have done absolutely nothing to book talk this series; the boys who read it are doing all the booktalking for me. Goodreads ratings for all 12 books are well into the 4-star range, each book boasting several thousand ratings.
One of my goals this school year is to increase my offerings in our Action-Adventure section. Though the section is relatively small compared to science fiction or high fantasy, it accounts for a good number of my checkouts from 7th and 8th grade boys. Popular series we already have include Alex Rider, I,Q, H.I.V.E., Trackers, and Shadow Project. New titles on my next order include: Joe Craig's Jimmy Coates series, Jack Heath's Agent of Six Hearts, Ridley Pearson's Steel Trapp series, and Andy Briggs'Villain.Net series.
I know many of my readers are librarians and teachers, and I know that I'm probably missing some really great titles. What other Action-Adventure/Spy books can you recommend for middle school libraries?
